I am writing this to give a 59-year personal testimony against the healthcare system (and praise where needed) and to retort my leftist/fascist friends who mocked me over "the Covidiocy".
My mother was given Thalidimide when pregnant with me. I was born missing most or all of the pericardium. Decades later the doctor, our long time family physician and close family friend, apologized to me saying he wished he had understood the problem much sooner.
It was, and we would piss each other off and make us both laugh at the same time. I just wish he had taken better care of himself and learned how to focus. He was in the end a wasted talent resource. There were very few people like him on this earth, no doubt about it.

So glad you didn't get the surgery! I would love to have seen you and your brother debating/arguing. That would have been epic.
